During the 2018-2019 summer season, Puelo Patagonia conducted research by a multidisciplinary team from the Universidad Austral de Chile who developed a diagnosis of the Cochamó Valley, in areas corresponding to natural resources and tourism.
The area declared a Sanctuary is the first officially protected area in the commune and covers a total of 11,432.8 hectares. which protects 6,500 hectares of mature forest and 1,800 hectares of ancient larch trees, rivers and riparian wetlands.
