Flora and Fauna Diagnosis

During the 2018-2019 summer season, Puelo Patagonia conducted research by a multidisciplinary team from the Universidad Austral de Chile who developed a diagnosis of the Cochamó Valley, in areas corresponding to natural resources and tourism.

Cochamó Valley Nature Sanctuary

The area declared a Sanctuary is the first officially protected area in the commune and covers a total of 11,432.8 hectares. which protects 6,500 hectares of mature forest and 1,800 hectares of ancient larch trees, rivers and riparian wetlands.

Fire Prevention

The Cochamó and Puelo valleys are at HIGH RISK of fire, due to the drought and a greater flow of visitors, which makes it urgent to generate a contingency plan for this type of danger.

Participatory wildlife monitoring

Installation of 25 camera traps by a team led by Fernando Novoa in Cochamó river valleys. Collaboration with locals, focus on diverse habitats and routes. Results expected in March.
